My little boy is growing up

Ian turned six a couple weeks back.  We threw him a small party for family and close friends at our place the Saturday prior, and on his actual birthday, we took him to a Mariners game.  It was a lot of fun, but quite cold.  We left about halfway through the game since  we were freezing and they were getting their butts kicked at the time.

I made Ian’s class some cupcakes.  They were a hit.

Then off to the game…

This was our first time with seats on the 300 level.  There was this great sitting area and an amazing view from up there.  We’ll definitely be buying the “cheap seats” again.

The Story of a Chair

I purchased an office chair last year on our sisters’ weekend in Centrailia.  I sat in it and immediately knew that I had to have it because it was so comfortable!!  The fabric was hideous, but I intended to take care of that right away, or so I thought.

I bought this great ostrich print vinyl to recover the chair, but I never got around to reupholstering it, until now...  It was far easier than I expected and I’m quite pleased with the results.

Here is a look at the underside of the chair.  “Sit-Wel Chair” from Buffalo, NY, circa 1936.  You can see the disgusting fabric that I’ve been living with.

Sit-wel

Under the fabric was the original leather seat stuffed with horse hair.  As a side-note, our cat Leia has been obsessed with sleeping on this chair, and I think the horse hair is why.

Horse hair

I removed the leather and left the horse hair intact, but moved a little to cover up that hole in the corner, and whalla….

Chair

I reattached the back leather piece.  I’m sure there are plenty of people who would’ve replaced it, but I just love the way it looks and how the new clean fabric is contrasted by the worn leather.   This is also the most comfortable feature of this chair as the backrest swivels when you lean back and always hugs your back.

Back

Here is a shot of the ostrich fabric.  Love!!

 Fabric

On a totally unrelated note, I hate the paint color in the office.   We’ve lived with it for over 5 years now, so I think the time has come for a color change.  I’m leaning toward a pale pear green.

Hipstamatic Fanatic

I’m in love with the Hipstamatic app. on my phone.  It reminds me of the photos that I love to take with my little plastic Holga camera, only without the film and printing costs.  I bought the app. when I first got my iPhone.  After that phone broke and I received a new phone, I couldn’t figure out how to get my old apps. onto my new phone.  Turns out that it was a rather simple fix, and now that I’ve  finally figured it out, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying taking these little square photos once again.

Here are some shots from my first phone, and my current phone.

An afternoon in the hood

Chi had to work yesterday, so we spent the afternoon just walking around the neighborhood.

The Corner Store

Ian and Hannah spent the last tree hours cleaning their disaster of a room.  The incentive?  A promise of a trip to the corner store for ice cream when they were done.

Ian went in his pj’s and we ran into our friends Kirk and Brittney on our short one block walk, then we chatted with Alan, the owner of the store about all things ice cream.  I simply love this neighborhood!

Hannah is four!!!!

Thursday was Hannah’s birthday, so we made cupcakes for her school.  That morning we frosted and decorated them.  Ian and Hannah did a great job with the sprinkles.  I was surprised at how deliberate and clean they were with them.

That evening we went to Hannah’s choice of a dinner location, Red Robin, and we were met with a surprise when we were leaving.IMG_5341 IMG_5342

Saturday brought her birthday party.  She had decided that she wanted a Little Mermaid themed party and she wanted to eat tacos.  I made sure the theme came together and Daddy made sure that we had the best tacos ever.  He roasted some pork for some amazing carnitas tacos with pickled onions, a cabbage slaw, and pineapple puree as a finishing touch.  They were yummy and disappeared in no time.IMG_5347 IMG_5353 IMG_5368
